What Is Panchakarma
A Purification & Rejuvenation Process Unlike Any Other
Panchakarma, meaning five actions is a set of specialised Ayurvedic procedures that help remove accumulated toxins (Ama), restore dosha balance and support the body’s natural healing mechanisms.
Panchakarma is a process to identify and heal root causes of imbalance rather than a temporary wellness program. Each plan is customised individually based on the Prakriti, lifestyle and wellness needs of the individual.

The five panchakarma therapies
Explained by Dr. Ajayita
Panchakarma consists of five classical therapeutic procedures namely Vamana, Virechana, Basti, Nasya and Raktamokshana. Each has a different role in the traditional Ayurvedic system and not all therapies are appropriate for all patients. The specific combination is determined by individual assessment.

Kapha dosha
Vamana
A controlled, medically supervised elimination therapy designed to expel excess Kapha from the upper respiratory and digestive tract. Never done without a proper preparation phase the body must be properly oleated and fomented before this therapy is safe and effective.
Commonly indicated for:
Respiratory congestion
Skin conditions
Obesity
Kapha depression

Pitta dosha
Virechana
Addresses excess Pitta through controlled purgation using specific herbal formulations. Directly improves liver metabolic function and the body’s ability to process hormones correctly. In my experience, Virechana produces some of the most dramatic and lasting results of any single Panchakarma effective.procedure when properly indicated.
Commonly indicated for:
Liver dysfunction
Hormonal imbalance
Hyperacidity

Vata dosha
Basti
The most important of the five therapies per classical Ayurvedic texts and after 25 years of clinical practice, I agree with that assessment. It directly addresses Vata the most common root cause of chronic conditions I see in practice. Available in two forms: Anuvasana Basti (oil-based) and Niruha Basti (decoction-based).
Commonly indicated for:
Joint pain
Constipation
Reproductive health

Consciousness pathway
Nasya
Medicated oils administered through the nasal passages — the direct route to consciousness and the brain per classical Ayurveda. Begins with a preparatory facial massage and steam. Most patients describe notable mental clarity within the first few sessions, even those who came in for a physical complaint.
Commonly indicated for:
Mental fog
Sinusitis
Hair fall
Anxiety

Blood Cleansing
Raktamokshana (Bloodletting)
Raktamokshana is a classical Ayurvedic Panchakarma procedure which has been traditionally used in the management of conditions related to Rakta and Pitta imbalance. At AClinic, Jalauka (medical leech therapy) can be offered in selected cases, under careful individual assessment and adequate clinical supervision.
Commonly indicated for:
Some chronic skin conditions
Gout-related issues
Some inflammatory joint diseases
Venous or Vascular Problems Selected
Kapha dosha
Vamana
Therapeutic emesis
A controlled, medically supervised elimination therapy designed to expel excess Kapha from the upper respiratory and digestive tract. Never done without a proper preparation phase the body must be properly oleated and fomented before this therapy is safe and effective.
Commonly indicated for
- Respiratory congestion
- Skin conditions
- Obesity
- Kapha depression
Pitta dosha
Virechana
Therapeutic purgation
Addresses excess Pitta through controlled purgation using specific herbal formulations. Directly improves liver metabolic function and the body’s ability to process hormones correctly. In my experience, Virechana produces some of the most dramatic and lasting results of any single Panchakarma procedure when properly indicated.
Commonly indicated for
- Liver dysfunction
- Psoriasis / eczema
- Hyperacidity
- Hormonal imbalance
Vata dosha
Basti
Medicated enema therapy
The most important of the five therapies per classical Ayurvedic texts and after 25 years of clinical practice, I agree with that assessment. Have more questions? Call the clinic or book a consultation — every concern is addressed personally.
What is Panchakarma treatment?
Panchakarma is a traditional Ayurvedic purification and rejuvenation process. The name means “five actions” referring to specialized procedures that eliminate accumulated Ama (toxins) and restore doshic equilibrium in the body.
How long does Panchakarma treatment take?
The duration depends on individual requirements and the personalized wellness plan recommended after your initial consultation. A detailed assessment is required to determine the most appropriate program length.
Do I need a consultation before starting?
Yes. Every Panchakarma program begins with a detailed Ayurvedic assessment. This is essential to ensure the right therapies are selected based on your Prakriti, current health status, and wellness goals.
Do patients visit from Mohali and Panchkula?
Yes. Many patients visit from Mohali, Panchkula, Zirakpur, Kharar, and nearby tricity areas. The clinic at SCO 71, Sector 30-C, Chandigarh is easily accessible from across the region.
Can I book an online consultation?
Yes, online consultations are available for patients across India and internationally. You can book via our website, WhatsApp, or by calling the clinic directly.
What are the 5 Panchakarma therapies?
The five classical Panchakarma therapies are Vamana (therapeutic emesis for Kapha disorders), Virechana (therapeutic purgation for Pitta disorders), Basti (medicated enema therapy for Vata disorders), Nasya (nasal administration of medicated oils for head and neck conditions), and Raktamokshana (therapeutic bloodletting for blood-related conditions). Each therapy addresses a specific dosha imbalance and is selected based on a comprehensive Ayurvedic assessment never used interchangeably.
How is Panchakarma different from a regular detox?
A typical detox is a one size fits all program. Panchakarma, in contrast, is a personalized program built around the individual’s Prakriti, current imbalances, Agni (digestive strength), and complete health history all designed under clinical supervision. The specific therapies used, their sequence and duration, and the preparatory and post-treatment protocols are all individualized. Two patients presenting with identical symptoms can require completely different Panchakarma programs
Is Panchakarma safe for someone on allopathic medication?
Yes this is evaluated in full during your first consultation. Panchakarma can be done alongside allopathic medication in most cases, with appropriate modifications to the protocol. Certain therapies may need to be avoided or adjusted depending on the specific medication and condition. A complete medical history review is mandatory before any Panchakarma program begins at AClinic, which is exactly why the initial assessment exists.
Can Panchakarma help with PCOS, thyroid, or hormonal imbalance?
Yes. Panchakarma particularly Virechana and Basti directly addresses the underlying doshic and metabolic imbalances that drive hormonal conditions like PCOS and thyroid dysfunction. In my clinical experience, patients with hormonal imbalances show considerable improvement when Panchakarma is combined with personalized dietary and lifestyle guidance based on their Prakriti. Most patients begin noticing positive changes within 6 to 12 weeks of completing a full program.
Is Panchakarma safe?
Panchakarma therapies are recommended after a thorough evaluation of individual health needs and wellness goals. Under Dr. Ajayita’s personal guidance, every program is carefully planned, monitored, and adjusted for safety.
